  Traffic Map Help
The following text gives instructions on how to navigate to different traffic maps and information about what the different icons mean for events, traffic levels, and some miscellaneous icons and how to get more information when certain icons are displayed.

Map Navigation
To go from one map to another use the "Map Navigation" graphic next to the top, left corner of the traffic map.
Moving your mouse over the boxes on the graphic will highlight the box and change the text above the map to show the area of the map that will be displayed if the box is clicked.
Event Icons
The traffic map can have many different event types being displayed on the map. If an event is being displayed on the map, place your mouse cursor over it to see a summary of the event. Click on the event to get more detailed information for it. The event types are incident, lane closure, emergency lane closure, special, congestion, advisory, and other events.
An incident event is displayed on the map as a blue triangle with an exclamation mark inside it. An incident event is defined as a non-recurring, unplanned event.
A lane closure event is displayed on the map as a blue triangle with the depiction of someone shoveling dirt inside it. A lane closure event is defined as a lane or lanes that are closed for a period of time and the time period is known in advance.
An emergency lane closure event is displayed on the map as a red triangle with the depiction of someone shoveling dirt inside it. An emergency lane closure event is defined as a lane or lanes that are closed for a period of time and the time period is not known in advance.
A special event is displayed on the map as a blue star. A special event is defined as a planned event (e.g., baseball game).
A congestion event is displayed on the map as a red asterisk. A congestion event is defined as an event resulting from heavy flow of traffic.
An advisory event is displayed on the map as a blue circle with a lowercase 'i' in it. An advisory event is defined as a predicted/anticipated event.
An event that does not fit into any of the other event types is an "other event" and is displayed as a blue question mark.
Traffic Level Icons
The maps give an indication of how traffic is flowing on the roadway networks. The freeway and arterial intersection traffic levels are shown with different icons on the map. The freeway traffic levels are "Light", "Moderate", "Heavy", or "No Data".
A "Light" freeway traffic level is displayed on the map as a green circle and is defined as traffic that is free flowing (e.g., traffic that is flowing at 35 mph or above).
A "Moderate" freeway traffic level is displayed on the map as a yellow circle with a black outline and is defined as traffic that is moderately congested (e.g., traffic that is flowing between 20 and 35 mph).
A "Heavy" freeway traffic level is displayed on the map as a red circle with a black dot in the middle and with a black outline and is defined as traffic that is heavily congested (e.g., traffic that is flowing at 20 mph or less).
A "No Data" freeway traffic level is displayed on the map as a white circle with a gray plus sign in the middle and with a gray outline and is defined as a sensor that is currently not receiving data.
The arterial traffic levels are "Light", "Moderate", "Heavy", or "No Data".
A "Light" arterial traffic level is displayed on the map as a green triangle with a slight curve on one side and is defined as all traffic in the signal cue will get through on the green light.
A "Moderate" arterial traffic level is displayed on the map as a yellow triangle with a slight curve on one side and is defined as the traffic in the signal cue may have to wait more than one green light to get through the intersection.
A "Heavy" arterial traffic level is displayed on the map as a red triangle with a slight curve on one side and is defined as the traffic in the signal cue will have to wait more than one green light to get through the intersection.
A "No Data" arterial traffic level is displayed on the map as a gray triangle with a slight curve on one side and is defined as an arterial sensor that is currently not receiving data.
Miscellaneous Icons
A changeable message sign (CMS) is displayed on the traffic map as a red square with horizontal white lines in the middle of it. If a CMS is being displayed on the map, place your mouse cursor over it to see the message that is currently being displayed on it.
A camera is displayed on the traffic map as a black icon that looks similar to the top down view of a camera. If a camera is being displayed on the map, place your mouse cursor over it to see who is providing the camera feed and the location of the camera. Clicking on the camera will allow you to view streaming video, a camera snapshot, or camera snapshots that give the illusion of streaming video depending on the link that is selected.
